Forest Facts
Species living in the Woods ca. 6,700 animal species, ca. 4,700 species of plants
The forest offers animals
  • spots for breeding and nesting
  • protection confronting the weather condition and animals of prey
  • food

The forest provides the environment with
  • water reservoirs
  • protection for the soil
  • climate protection, "air filter"
  • oxygen production

A wood is just like a building with iv floors or then-called "layers": forest flooring, herbaceous layer, shrub layer and tree layer. The more sunlight falls through the canopy of the tree layer, the more singled-out are the shrub and soil layers. In each layer live unlike animals. 1. Tree layer

Mainly birds live in the tree layer and accept their nesting and breeding places there. In this surface area they are optimally protected confronting animals of prey that are living on the footing. Yet, also mammals such as the squirrel or the pine marten climb upwardly that high. The squirrel even builds its nest up there, which is called "drey".

two. Shrub layer (up to 16.iv ft; 5 yard)

Birds employ shrubs to hide in them, build nests and pick tasty fruits (such as rowan berries, sloes, raspberries). Many shrubs accept thorns, which protect the birds from animals of prey. As shrubs tin reach heights of upwardly to iv.9 ft (1.5 m) they also protect deer from bad weather condition and animals of prey.

3. Herbaceous layer (up to 4.nine ft; 1,5 g)

Mainly insects live between the grasses and ferns of the herbaceous layer. The plants provide protection and food too. The more than sunlight reaches the layer through the canopy of leaves, the more than plants grow and thrive in the herbaceous layer. If there is non much sunlight, the vegetation is likewise rather sparse.

The swamp forest is rather wet and humid and can exist found in swamp areas. The South-American rain forest is known for its specially humid climate. A woods that is not cultivated by humans is chosen master woods or quondam-growth forest. An alluvial forest is located adjacent to creeks and rivers.
